They offer a serious punch, and turning off the B&O effects leaves music sounding tinny. While last year’s Spectre x2 buried the speakers inside the keyboard, HP has returned to the more conventional front-firing speakers, again tuned by Bang & Olufsen. There’s one USB-C port on this side of the Spectre x2… (With Hello, I find that I need to improve the recognition every so often by re-scanning my face the same goes for the Spectre x2.) A 5MP wide-view front-facing camera does a fine job for Skype, and there’s an IR camera to supplement the optical camera for Windows Hello. The two cameras include a 13MP rear one for those who like to take photos and videos with their tablets. The USB-C to USB-A dongle pokes out stiffly, but it’s handy for legacy devices.

You’ll also find a microSD card slot along the left side of the tablet. I’m still not wholly convinced that the time is now for USB-C, but HP has neatly bridged that gap, and without any additional cost to the user.

Even better, HP includes a USB-C to USB-A dongle inside the box. I also liked how the underside of the keyboard uses a very grippable, ridged coating of rubbery material to protect it and make it easier to hold.Īlong the sides of the tablet are a pair of USB-C ports, either of which may be used for charging as well as I/O (USB 3.1 Gen.1, at 5Gbps) as well as to drive a DisplayPort monitor. HP’s latest tablet feels noticeably lighter, though the thickness remains about the same. Although you probably won’t be making hand-to-hand comparisons like I did, I gripped the older Elite x2, then the new Spectre x2. Folded up, the tablet measures 11.57 x 8.15 x 0.52 inches. The Spectre x2 (2017) weighs 2.48 pounds, among the lighter tablets we’ve seen. Small grilles reveal the front-facing speakers, which deliver a lot of punch. It’s not loud but definitely noticeable, with a steady hiss. But I was surprised to find that the Spectre x2’s fan kicks in frequently, even while installing an app or transferring a few gigabytes of files. The prior-generation Spectre x2 used Core m chips, so Core i7 pushes it into the higher end of Windows tablets (more on that later).

You’d have to go back to the Surface Book or the MacBook Pro to surpass it.Ī plus and a minus of the new Spectre x2 is the 2.4GHz Core i7-7560U in most of the SKUs. According to our light meter, it pumps out up to 411 nits, a surprising amount of light for a tablet. This display is a big boost over the first-generation Spectre x2’s 1920×1280 display and even the new Surface Pro’s 2736×1824 display. In any event, the fan seems to turn on frequently.Īll the versions use Intel’s Iris Plus 640 integrated graphics and a 12.3-inch touch display with 3,000×2,000-pixel resolution behind Corning’s Gorilla Glass 4.

Since it prohibits me from having full controll, it really itches me the wrong way.Īny suggestions as to what I can do is much appreciated.ĮDIT: I noticed I had some "Dolby" related files in my C:\Windows.The Spectre x2’s fan vents are situated at the top of the tablet, perhaps making them appear louder. Since Dolby is an Audio program, it interferes with my Realtek, messing up plenty of the Audio setup, such as lowering volumes and not being able to switch from headset to Stereo. Some information as to why I want to remove Dolby. (i've also downloaded realtek for Lenovo specifically even reinstalled it just in case). Usually this is also related to some trojan or virus, but this Dolby came prepackaged with the pc. But Dolby audio doesn't really count as one? However, usually they appear on drivers, which you can manually uninstall. I checked for other tutorials on how people managed to remove unwanted programs that keep reinstalling themselves. This is a brand new Lenovo pc, but for some reason I cannot remove Dolby or keep it from coming back again.
